MUSIC DIRECTOR AND ORGANIST
A native of Kinston, North Carolina, Clay Whittington is an accomplished vocalist, pianist, and director. Clay has over 15 years of experience in traditional and contemporary sacred music with choirs, handbells, worship bands, and keyboards.
He has performed with the Carmel Bach Festival, Pebble Beach Resorts, the Texas Panhandle Heritage Foundation, and Carnival Cruise Lines. He has directed vocal and instrumental ensembles for the North Carolina Conference of the United Methodist Church, the Episcopal Diocese of El Camino Real, the Episcopal Diocese of East Carolina, East Carolina University Opera Theatre, Lenoir Community College Theatre, and the Thalian Association. He will be studying vocal performance with a concentration in sacred music at East Carolina University, starting in the fall of 2019.
Prior to moving on from Carnival Cruise Lines in November of 2018, Clay achieved top performer status after performing on 9 of the fleet’s 25 ships. During his two and a half years abroad, he gave recitals in the Bahamas, Bermuda, Cuba, and Mexico. Upon returning home to eastern North Carolina, he served as interim organist and choirmaster for St. Thomas Episcopal Church in Bath, NC just before accepting his current position as organist and choir director at Spilman Memorial Baptist Church in Kinston, NC. Clay begin on May 1, 2019.
Clay lives in Greenville and moonlights as a piano/vocal entertainer and performs lead vocals and keyboards for the British Invaders Band.
